Tullio De Piscopo - Suonando La Batteria Moderna

I wasn't sure whether to put this in 'Reissue of the Week' but Dan says he's got a jaffer so I'll leave that one to him and stick it here...
This one is just essential for any producers or percussion enthusiasts... a high quality reissue of a 'holy grail' drum break compilation. I've got a fair few of these Drum Library type records and I've got to be honest, this one is the best by far. The recordings are quality yet rugged and rough, while the rhythms are explosive and super, super funky throughout. It's a touch expensive at £29.99, but I can't wait to get these breaks into the sampler and start enhancing my beats.

Mbongwana Star - From Kinshasa

I got a text from my wife that read "Brian Eno? Or some world music?". I chose world, and when my wife returned from WOMAD she brought with her this charming record.
A Franco-Congolese hybrid of traditional rumba, electronica, and pretty spiffing production techniques, Mbongwana Star are comprised of two members of the paraplegic group Staff Benda Billi, with the addition of French producer Doctor L. A sort of aggressive, punk-tinged take on traditional Congolese music, all underpinned by extremely modern synths,  the album manages to be a very modern take on 'world' music, without simply bastardising western pop music from twenty years ago, as seems so often to be the case.
Check out the single 'Kala' below.

Free - Classic Synths sampled to tape!

At CMFCP, we are not only vinyl enthusiasts - we're also slightly obsessed with synthesizers and drum machines. So we were very excited to see the ever excellent sample house Samples From Mars are currently giving away a sumptuous collection of classic synths, all sampled to reel to reel tape. It's almost too good to be true!
Here's what Samples from Mars are saying:

Not many people multi-sample synths to tape - it's time consuming and can leave a pretty big dent in your wallet. In fact, each synth patch we recorded took up about 1,250 ft of tape! (around 10 - 15 minutes).

But the results sound absolutely incredible! Who cares about time and money when you have sweet, sweet analog synths recorded to a classic reel to reel machine? These patches are truly special. Warm, fat, gritty and pretty. Enjoy :)
What You Get:
  • 10 soft synth instruments created by multi-sampling analog synthesizers to a 1/4" mastering reel to reel
  • Sounds range from saturated sub bass to epic 80s poly synths, sync leads and dirty FX
  • Featuring: Roland MKS-7, Oberheim SEM, Moog Micromoog, and Novation Bass Station
  • Ready for Ableton 9, Kontakt 5 and Logic
  • 24bit WAV Files for any sampler / DAW
  • 737 MB

Midnight Express OST (1981) - Giorgio Moroder

Everyone loves Giorgio Moroder, and everyone loves a bargain, so I thought I'd shine a light on a nice little steal I managed to find yesterday - the original pressing for just 99p on ebay. Absolutely stunning soundtrack to a great film, definitely worth £1!
With Moroder's trademark analogue, driving synth lines and insistent, electronic drums, the record is a charismatic piece of work that enhances the film no end. Have a listen below.

Here's it's Discogs entry if you want to pick one up yourself. There's a repress that looks pretty nice and of course the 1981 OG

Street Fighter 2 Soundtrack on Vinyl!

Here's a mouth-watering proposition for any child of the 90s... Legendary arcade/console beat 'em up Street Fighter 2 (why am I even explaining what it is) is due for a deluxe vinyl release through Japanese label Brave Wave.

Here's what Brave Wave are saying:

The soundtrack release will include new remasters of both CPS-1 and CPS-2 versions of the arcade game, extracted directly from the arcade boards and approved by original composer Yoko Shimomura.
Fans of physical media will be treated with a double album that features liner notes by Yoko Shimomura and Polygon.com writer Matt Leone. Additionally, and for the first time in the series history, we will present with Capcom a limited edition vinyl release, carefully and especially remastered in translucent colored vinyl, with art prints sourced from the Capcom archive.

It's gonna be a mad dash to order this when it finally comes out so here's hoping that day comes when I've got some money!

Philly Re-Grooved: The Tom Moulton Remixes: Special Vinyl Edition - Great Deal!

Well, what do we have here? The inaugural, debut, first ever CMFCP post, that's what. POW, better make it a goodie.
Hopefully this is just that - I've picked up a rather beautiful looking box set collection of legendary Philly Remixer Tom Moulton's finest mixes. Now, for those who don't know, Tom Moulton is the inventor of the remix. Yes, I know, it seems implausible that one guy could invent something that is so embedded in our musical landscape, but that's exactly what he did.
Using reel to reel tapes he manually chopped and spliced disco hits of the time to get them just right for the dancefloor... and in doing so, inspired millions of future DJs and producers to do the same.

This collection has some absolute belters including the above. And what's also made my day is that this set is currently reduced over at Demon Music Group. You'll find it on Amazon for £70+, but Demon have it for £34.99, which is quite a saving.
